Here is a Birthday card I made for a very special lady who will be turning 90 this Saturday.
For this card, I used a paper napkin to create my background paper and then matted it onto purple cardstock. The dies I used for this card were from the Sue Wilson California Collection - "Napa Valley" and Memory Box - "Gwyneth Flourish". I added a few flowers and pearls.
To create your own paper using paper napkins you first must tear apart all the layers so you end up with just the layer that has the pattern. This napkin was a 3 ply and I have to tell you, it wasn't easy separating the layers......Once you have your thin layer, take a sheet of paper - any type of paper will work - I used copy paper for this but you can also use cardstock if you want a thicker paper. Lay your paper on something solid - I used a strong piece of cardboard on top of another larger sheet of paper and placed that on my ironing board. Next, cut a piece of plastic wrap (yep, the kind you keep in your kitchen) and lay that on top of your paper. Place your napkin on top of the plastic wrap and then a couple sheets of copy paper and iron with a hot iron - NO STEAM...... the plastic wrap with melt and adhere the napkin to the paper.
This is a great way to keep a theme going for any type of party --- your invitation can match your napkins!
Hope you have fun with this technique and I'd love to see some of the results.
